The Speed of Life

There is more to life than increasing its speed.
~~ Mahatma Gandhi ~~ (1869 – 1948)

This is something I have to admit I’m desperately struggeling with right now.  I don’t do much different then when I lived in Louisiana yet now, I feel as if I do.  I feel like there was a distinct barrier crossed sometime between Louisiana and here and my life sped up an epic amount.  Maybe it’s because I am only home for maybe 4-5 hours a day that I’m awake and the rest of the time is sleep time.  And that’s not much.  So maybe it’s because I have to cram in those 4-5 hours so many things.

Weekends are a little better.  Sleeping in for me has progressed to 7:30 in the morning.  Hey, don’t knock it.  When you get up at 5 am every other day you cherish those 2 1/2 hours more than you thought you would.  I don’t resent that I sleep so little.  I know I can rest and relax on the weekends a little more.  Sometimes.

So why does the speed of my life feel like I’m in mach 1?  I haven’t changed much.. *sigh* I guess I have to figure that out.

Making a Name for Yourself

Ok- I have to admit this is a phrase that made me stop and think about it seriously the other day.  I have a friend (who shall remain nameless for now) who sent an email to me and said she was very frustrated that she was getting knocked on her ass every time she turned around and she was trying to hard to make a name for herself.  She wants to be the next J.K. Rowling…  Now don’t get me wrong.  I’m all about supporting her in this.  But at the same time, I get the feeling that she feels she has to make a name for herself in order to be something important.

So I’m asking, why does it matter?  Shouldn’t it just matter that we have a solid reputation as a human?  Why do we feel the need to be “popular” in order to feel like something?  Now I can see part of her point.  There is nothing I’d like better than to write a best selling book and have a J. K. Rowling story book type ending.  But the reality is the idea hasn’t come to me and that’s on hold as a result of that.  But that’s fine.  It’s something I want to do to be able to say I can do it.  At this point, who cares if it’s a best seller or not.  Who cares if it gets published at all?   She’s made me look and realize that the book author part of me is not something that defines me.  It’s just something I want to do.

Actually I’ve come to realize that alot of what I used to think would define me isn’t the case at all.  Just because I want to do something, it doesn’t mean that I have to do it in order to feel worthy.  I guess it’s all about self acceptance.  But at the same time, I still wonder.  Does it matter that I’m not Angelina Jolie or J.K. Rowling?  No  But most importantly……

Why does it matter?  I am me-I don’t want to be anyone else.  And at the same time I’m happy that I’m not going to be Miss Popular.  I’m happy that I don’t feel the need to make a name for myself.

Does that make sense??

Hello World, It’s Me

Posted in Life by Donna on April 19, 2009

It’s been a while huh?  I’ve wanted to blog but just haven’t made the time.  Sorry about that.  Work is good, it’s an adjustment trying to learn all the systems and going back and forth from Mac to PC is an interesting change.  We’ve been busy during the week with me working and then doing a few things after work.  Marcy is coming back this week for a couple of days and I can’t wait, it’s about time!

We had some sad news last night and I’m still working on processing it.  And I got my hair cut!  Yes folks it’s short again but the dead ends are gone and it’s got a style going on.  We got a new fridge for the apt this weekend and I’m almost sad to go back up to the 3rd floor because I have to give it up.  But at the same time, we’re looking at going back up to the 3rd floor as early as this weekend.  How exciting is that?!

Boy it’s the little things in life that make us happy huh?

So, I had this idea today for a book club.  But it would be in a google group because most everyone is scattered.  So I’m working with Kris and fine tuning the idea and hopefully in the next couple of days I’ll have something concrete.  So here is what I’m asking from you.  If you are interested, email me or leave me a comment with your email addy.  And I need you to send me a list of 2-3 books that are out there that you would like to read.

Remember more will come later!!!

I know it’s been a while since I posted, sorry about that.  Work is good.  It’s just getting up at 5 am to be at work and then getting home close to 6 and having stuff going on has been crazy.  My poor foot is recovering.  It’s so swollen it’s not even funny.  So I came home early today since it was my half day and I took a nap!  Yay for naps!  I’m still tired but I feel better.

So here are some thoughts and highlights from my week so far. ….

The metrorail isn’t bad.  I’ve been lucky each time and haven’t missed a connection yet.

I love working again.  I especially like not being around so much drama in a big office.

Speaking of drama, the resident work drama queen quit before I even got to know him.  Now we’re one short.

Skinny jeans are cute on some boys.  Skinny jeans are cute on some skaters, HOWEVER, skinny jeans on skater boys who are wearing them below their ass like the crazy baggy pants kids are NOT CUTE.  I should have taken a picture.

I was flirted with yesterday on the way to work by a Sheriff.  He walked me to my building.  I told the hubby and instead of being flattered that I was flirted with (I would have thought it would appreciate it) he was pissed.   *sigh*

Lori called and said her booby squishing went well, sending positive thoughts and good karma her way.

JoAnn had an abnormal booby squishing and has to go back.  Sending positive thoughts her way too.  I’m really worried about her.

I got book 8 in the Sookie Stackhouse series.  I’m sooooooo Conflicted on this.

Dirk didn’t finish his list like he said he would so I won round one.  Good thing I had mine done!!!!!

So that’s it in the nutshell.  Not sure what we are doing tomorrow but I know this.

I WILL sleep past 5 am!  LOL

How was your week?

I almost didn’t blog today

But since I started the new job, I thought I would at least let you know how it went.  Here is what I did today.  Nothing.  Paperwork.  Taken to lunch by my underwriter and her other assistant.  Given the company history.  Nothing.  Until 4:30  Granted it’s nice and slow now.  But the good news is it will b a really short week.  I get off work for the weekend at 11:30 on Thursday!

Now I’m taking my hurting foot and my tired ass and going to bed.  I hope you had a good day and I promise I will catch your blogs tomorrow!

It’s Finally Over!

I’m actually excited about going in to work tomorrow.  Well, I guess it’s because I’m going to be working again.  It’s been nice to be off for 5 months, but damn, enough is enough.  And the benefits are just out of this world!  We decided that it’s going to be easier to leave D on Kaiser and me just do the insurance at the office.  It’s cheaper too.  So that’s what we’re going to do.  🙂

On a lighter note, I’m really excited because Marcy will be here later this month again.  We’re going to go to the Go-Go’s concert at the House of Blues while she’s here.  I’m excited about that too.  For a Monday, I think it’s going to be a great day.

I’ll know more tomorrow night…Until then!

It’s Sunday Stealing Time (Again)!
